Former Deputy CEO for the Youth Enterprise Support during the John Mahama regime, and a former Leader of the Ga-Dangme Youth, Prince Derek Adjei has served notice that impeachment proceedings will be initiated against President Akufo Addo by June 3, 2018 for breaching the Constitution of the country.
According to him, the President nearly 100 days after he was presented with a petition dated February 14, 2018, calling for the removal of the Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo from office has declined the request, an inaction the NDC communicator argues it’s in contravention of Article 146 (6) and 146 (7). Article 146 (6) of Ghana’s constitution.
Some seven persons from La who have petitioned the President for the removal of the Chief Justice include Nii Yemoh Yemofio (Patapaa We), Prince Derick Nii Sowah Adjei (Akornor We), Nii Adjah Mensah (Anarhor), Rev Ben Tetteh Odoi (Yemo We(, Mathew Nii Okpoti Tetteh (Adjei Nkpa We), Ben Nii Adjei Mensah(Nmate Wansa We) and Nii Ozo Adjei Kwao.
The petitioners say their action is based on a petition signed by Nii Dr. Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III (La Mantse) and copied the Chief of Staff notifying the Attorney General about a pending law suit by the La Traditional Council against the Ministry of Land & Natural Resources and the Lands Commission over the “Irregularities and clandestine compulsory acquisition of La Stool Lands and the unlawful usage, development and granting of Leases for valuable consideration to third parties and its effects on Peace and tranquility of the La locality and National Security in the first year after the 2016 Presidential elections.”
According to the seven, the lawsuit will be in the courts of Ghana presided over by the Chief Justice Sophia Abena Boafoa Akuffo, a situation they hold is an avoidable situation which could lead to a travesty of justice because she is documented as being one of the persons who bought the said lands, an 0.28acre State land at the Cantonments Residential area in La, which is documented as one she purchased at a price of GH ¢7,000 as part of a transaction undertaken by the Lands Commission under circumstances that have been described severally as “corrupt”, “fraudulent” and “toffee & kelewele” by various state officials including the current Lands Minister [Hon. John Peter Amewu] and a former Lands Minister [Hon. Inusah Fuseini] publicly.
According to the seven, “If confirmed, it will make the Chief Justice unfit to hold that office and be a fair arbiter in cases relating in particular to La Lands, which lands she has been cited as being a beneficiary of.”
Speaking to Host Kwaku Owusu Agyei on Anopa Kasapa Prince Derek Agyei stated that President Akufo Addo has also disregarded the people of La, as he’s refused to acknowledge receipt and act on two petitions sent to him by the La Mantse Dr. Nii Tetteh Kpobi Tsuru.
He added that the President will pay dearly for his nonchalance with an impeachment against him.
“It is getting to 100 days, the 100th day will be 3rd June, if by that day we don’t hear from the President, on 4th June we’ll take action, [legal and constitutional means] we’ll remove the President. He’s acting in breach of the constitution, he’s set aside the constitution of Ghana and he’s acted in treason. A petition has been sent to the President, after 100 days if we don’t hear from him we shall start action for the removal of the President.
“You know that as we speak now the military are stealing our lands, one Colonel is registering the La lands in their name. The Ministry of defence are registering La lands in their name, meanwhile this President is supposed to be the custodian of all lands in Ghana. Why is he sitting down for La lands to be stolen, what does he mean? If Otumfuo had said this thing, will he do that? the La Mantse wrote a petition to the President and because the President does not respect La people he’s not said anything about it. If it ere to be the Otumfuo like by now he’ll be crawling all over the place, what does this President mean? They should not annoy us, by the 3rd of June if he he does not answer to our petition we’ll start taking steps to remove him.”
