See The Main Reason Why Fct Chief Judge Voluntarily Retire

The chief judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Justice Salisu Garba has voluntarily retired from service.

Justice Garba who is the newly appointed Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, voluntarily retired from office on 2nd of August 2021.

Garba has subsequently been appointed the administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI).

However, Ahuraka Isah, spokesman to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, issued a statement to that effect on Monday.

According to Isah, the National Judicial Institute Board of Governors, under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria Tanko Muhammad, approved the appointment of Mr. Garba.

The statement reads:

“Justice Garba, who was until his new appointment, the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, voluntarily retired to enable him resume at the Institute,” he said.

Justice Salisbury Garba takes over from Justice Rosaline Bozimo, whose tenure as the Administrator of the Institute ended July 31st 2021.

Meanwhile, Salisu Garba was sworn-in as the FCT Chief Judge on June 7th 2021 and would be due for retirement October 10th 2021 when he would have attained the mandatory retirement age of 65.

It is on record that Justice Salisu Garbage was born on October 10th, 1956. He hails from Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State of Nigeria.

Above all, Salisu was appointed magistrate in the FCT in 1989 and served as the Chief Registrar of the FCT High Court until he was appointed a judge of the FCT High Court in 1998.

Commendably, the chief judge was called to bar in 1984 just after he completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1985. He however, went into legal practice for three years after NYSC.

The appointment which takes effect from August 1st 2021 is supposed to last for three years from the date of appointment.

Nevertheless, the voluntary retirement of the chief justice has been seen by many as being in line with the civil service rule.

Justice Salisu Garba official retirement date being October 10th 2021 is three months from August 2nd when he voluntarily retired.

According to the civil service rule, civil servants are supposed to commence on compulsory leave three months to the date of retirement. Therefore, the voluntary retirement of the chief justice is anot act expected of every responsible and we’ll meaning Nigerian in the civil service.
