A one year and two months old daycare baby of Arise And Shine Nursery and primary school Asaba has died following severe injury from flogging by the teacher.
The one year seven months old baby simply identified as Obinna reportedly died after becoming unconscious and slides into coma. This was as a result of 31 strokes of cane he received from his school’s owner, Mrs Ogbo, and her son.
Our correspondent learnt that the sad incident was made known by Ebenezer Omejalile, Chief Operating Officer of Advocates for Children and Vulnerable People’s Network.
Advocate for Vulnerable People’s Network is a human rights group.
The report stated:
A pupil of Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary School, Asaba, Delta State, was given 31 strokes of for playing with water and getting wet.
Obinna’s mother said her nineteen months daycare baby was tied at both hands and legs before he was flogged into unconsciousness and eventually coma and death.
Meanwhile, the school owner and here son were initially arrested and kept in police Custody. But were released after agreement with Obinna’s family.
However, the two suspects have been rearrested on Saturday following the death of the daycare toddler.
